At a height of around 30 metres, the new roof terrace of the Humboldt Forum offers unique views of Berlin’s landmarks such as Museum Island, the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, the Berlin Cathedral and St. Mary’s Church. The approximately 1800-square-metre terrace can be reached via a lift from the ground floor. The terrace offers a panoramic view in all four directions and is accessible for those with limited mobility. The rooftop restaurant Baret invites you to relax and enjoy.
Art in Architecture on the roof terrace
To the east, an abstract, golden city panorama blends into, and artistically extends, the Berlin cityscape. It references the silhouette of Mexico City, one of Berlin’s partner cities. The title, Insurgentes Sur, refers to the southern part of the longest main street in the Mexican capital, the Avenida de los Insurgentes – the Avenue of the Insurgents.
The sound installation Cosmos – Things Fall Apart by Emeka Ogboh is located near the dome. Every hour on the hour, the choral singing of the Igbo folk song ‘Nne, Nne, Udu’ can be heard. The folk song and the chants originate from a rich Igbo tradition of oral storytelling and criticise the destructive influences of Christianity on Igbo culture.
