Slam meets film, word meets image: To open the Humboldt Forum’s AFRICAMERA programme, Burkinabé slammer, poet and actor Doueslik, together with musicians Erick Yelcouni and Oussou, will be offering their interpretations of film sequences from 50 years of Burkinese film history – a world premiere.
Burkina Faso is one of the most cinematically innovative nations on the African continent. Filmmakers such as Gaston Kaboré, Idrissa Ouedraogo and Dani Kouyaté are well-known names internationally, and have helped shape African cinema right up to the present day. Since 1969, Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso, has been host to FESPACO, the largest and most prominent film festival on the entire continent. Alex Moussa, our artistic director of AFRICAMERA, has been FESPACO’s director since 2020.
Following the slam film scholar Aboubakar Sanogo will discuss with film curator Rabih El-Khoury the significance of West African cinematography and Burkinabe cinema.
