The live set of the gifted musician and producer Alai K makes the courtyard shake. Together with local guests, he brings together electronic beats with live instruments, mijikenda rhythms, chakacha and benga music and performs a fusion of his very own kind.
Born in Mombasa on the Kenyan coast, Alai K has had an impressive musical career – from his beginnings as a Kenyan hip-hop pioneer to his current projects mixing electro sounds and traditional East African rhythms.
His stage name Vumbi means “dust” and refers to Alai K’s youth in the streets of Mombasa, where he came home covered in dust after dancing all night through.
