Originally based on Turkish and Greek folk influences, Mizrahi music formed its own genre of extremely danceable, trans-traditional, psychedelic rock music in 1970s Israel. The Polish band MLDVA dedicated itself exactly to this sound. The Krakow-based group MLDVA (pronounced: Moldova), which resists any form of nationalization in its sound, is one of the most progressive bands in the country. At AIRING OUT, MLDVA, together with multi-lingual singer Petra Nachtmanova, will play a set that refers especifically to the progressive sound of the late 1970s in Jaffa and the Koliphone record label there.
The Koliphone label was founded by Grazia Peretz, who as a teenager recorded a single album “Grazia” – an amazing musical gem that became one of the most sought-after Israeli records of all time. MLDVA now brings this very album to the stage in their very own version.
