Are borders becoming more permeable in the age of globalisation? What are smart borders? Sociologist Steffen Mau shows how new walls and militarised border crossings are now being built in many places. Nowhere is the Janus face of globalisation more evident than at 21st century borders.
Sociologist Steffen Mau (Humboldt University Berlin) will discuss the theses of his book Sortiermaschinen. Die Neuerfindung der Grenze im 21. Jahrhundert with migration researcher Naika Foroutan (Berliner Institut für empirische Integrations-und Migrationsforschung – BIM) and philosopher Stefan Gosepath (Freie Universität Berlin). The event will be moderated by journalist Christiane Hoffmann (Der Spiegel).
