The incidence of neurological and psychiatric conditions such as Alzheimers or depression is continuing to rise. How do such conditions develop, what are the mechanisms behind them and how can new therapies be developed?

Researchers from a variety of disciplines are working together in the NeuroCure cluster of excellence at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin to understand how the brain works, and what happens in diseases of the nervous system. For example, they are investigating how brain cells communicate with each other, what happens when communication pathways are disrupted, and how learning and memory formation take place. They will be presenting some of their research approaches for discussion at the third event in the WeSearch series, during which you will discover what is inside your head, and why neurons fire.
