Berlin: a city of juxtapositions, a city of change. Between real estate speculation, displacement and resistance, everyday life in Berlin squeezes in all its facets. And who better to sharpen our gaze than Lea Streisand, Späti proprietor extraordinaire, and the Wedding-based literature boy group Brauseboys?
BERLIN GLOBAL invites you to an evening with the stars of the Berlin literary scene at the Humboldt Forum “Späti”. In hilarious, astute and partly musical texts, Lea Streisand and the Brauseboys look at the urban changes of recent years, at the fight to ward off insanity and the constant failures contained within the everyday.
Lea Streisand’s stories home in on normalcy, on details, on the lives of so-called average people. She plucks the pearls from the mud and the needles from the haystack, cobbling together brilliant strands of stories that didn’t quite happen although they really should have.
In their satirical miniatures, the Brauseboys stake out the space between observations in their home districts and so-called “problem districts”, other German provinces and the kebab stand at the apex of all dimensions.
So grab a beer or fizzy drink for this very different tour of Berlin.

Lea Streisand is one of the most well-known voices in Berlin. Every monday morning, the writer speaks her radio column “war schön jewesen” on Radio Eins. In addition, she writes stories and novels, most recently Hätt’ ich ein Kind (Ullstein, 2022) about having children, adoption and Snow White. Her second novel, Hufeland, Ecke Bötzow (Ullstein, 2019), looks at the fall of the Berlin Wall from a child’s perspective, set in an area for years considered the epicentre of social change in Berlin: the Bötzowviertel in Prenzlauer Berg. Lea’s readings are like going out to dinner with friends you had almost forgotten how much you liked. She manages to make everyone feel like they’ve known her for a long time.
The Brauseboys are one of Berlin’s liveliest and most productive reading stages. Their home is the district of Wedding, but in the meantime they have ventured out to Prenzlauer Berg. Freshly showered lyrics, sparkling intelligence and heart-warming songs: For exactly 20 years that recipe has spelled success for the group, consisting of Thilo Bock, Robert Rescue, Frank Sorge, Volker Surmann and Heiko Werning. They have observed Berlin’s transformation in five books, most recently Berlin mit scharf. Geschichten aus einer unvollendeten Stadt (Satyr, 2017).
