When people stick a needle into fabric, something happens. Something that resonates in your body. Maybe it is the ancient Echo, a reminder to the human body of a language that was already there before the written word: the language of needles, threads, woven fabric and embroidery, the text of a textile. A textile is a network and therefore a context.
The artists Helena Hernandez and Anna Kölle call on people to gather round the artworks in the Museum, sit a while and share experiences, while making small textile works together. The artists want to bring artworks from the past into a context with textile art as a means of political action and the search for cultural identities. Contemporary readings and standpoints in the collective exchange are included during the sewing.
With the activity of embroidery and sewing, Helena Hernandez and Anna Kölle link a collective practice, which is the basis of the creation of many textiles. Together with the visitors, they create a small protected space of interaction and exchange within the Museum and animate it at the same time. At the end of the art performance, the collective and participative work can be exhibited, thus entering into dialogue with Museum pieces and future visitors.

Observations of everyday life, readings on theory and curiosity about very different disciplines focus Anna Kölle’s position as a graphic artist, sculptor, musician and “undisciplined researcher”.
For over ten years, she has worked freelance in the context of schools, museums, free art schools, seminars and conferences as an artist and art mediator, developed workshop formats and implemented them, frequently in collaboration with other artists and/or educators.
Helena Her lives and works in Berlin. She studied Fine Art at the National School of Plastic Arts ENAP, UNAM in Mexico and completed her MA in Art in Public Spheres at Lucerne University, Switzerland, with an Erasmus semester in Vienna, Austria, at the Academy of Fine Art.
Her works have been shown in collective exhibitions in Iceland, Switzerland, Austria, Singapore, Turkey, Italy, the US, the UK, Portugal, Spain, Germany and Mexico as well as in individual exhibitions in Germany, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
