“Here and Now. Women⁺ Experiencing Homelessness in Berlin” is the new Open Space exhibition at BERLIN GLOBAL.
While poverty is an omnipresent reality in urban spaces, the experiences of homeless women⁺ are rarely visible. The Open Space exhibition “Here and Now. Women⁺ Experiencing Homelessness in Berlin” by the Berlin association querstadtein e.V. aims to make their stories heard.
The opening event will address topics ranging from everyday realities of homelessness to the possibilities and limits of civic participation, barriers in the cultural sector, and the ways homeless individuals are treated socially and politically.
Programme:
6pm
Opening in the “Berlin Images” room
7pm
Fishbowl discussion on the topic of social and cultural participation.
Moderation: İdil Efe
As part of the opening, interview partners from the project along with representatives of Berlin’s state politics, academia and the Stadtmuseum Berlin will engage in a discussion with the audience.
The Open Space is a project by: querstadtein e.V.
Participants
querstadtein e.V. is committed to a society in which diversity is taken for granted. In particular, the association wants to make the voices of people heard who are often the subject of debate without having a say of their own.
querstadtein e.V. develops and organises city tours on the topics “poverty and homelessness” and “flight and migration” from the perspective of those affected.
İdil Efe worked as the Stadtmuseum Berlin’s diversity agent from 2019 to 2023. Among other things, she curated the exhibition area “Religion” in the “Free Space” room of BERLIN GLOBAL. She advises museums and curates for DOMiDLabs, a museum lab of the association DOMiD e.V.
