Eye-to-Eye introduction by Karin Slater, filmmaker, South Africa
These two very different documentaries observe the relationship between elephants and humans: Laxmi’s Blessings documents the life of an Indian family owning a temple elephant by vocation. They orchestrate spiritual enhancement and blessings with the animal’s trunk to devout Hindus. In his artistic documentary Elephants Karl Kels discovers interesting parallels between zoo visitors and cinema-audiences during the renovation of the elephant house at Vienna Zoo.
