There was once a cinema going culture in Kenya. Interestingly, as the New Wave of East African Cinema grew, the cinemas were closing down. Mobile viewing spaces came to a halt. How do we rebuild spaces and audiences for the films made in Eastern Africa? Manyatta Screenings’ answer to this question is to grow a local regional audience by showing the films, shorts specifically, from the region to the region.
