“Mountains and water,” 山水, denotes classical landscape painting throughout East Asia. Almost always, mountains and water also form the constituent elements of landscape depictions. But what lies behind these supposedly trivial components? Together we will discover pictorial quotations, decipher the symbolism of design elements, learn how inscription and pictorial representation interact and that interpretations are also subject to change.
Uta Rahman-Steinert guides us through the Museum of Asian Art with the curator’s particular view.
Unfortunately, this tour has to be cancelled due to illness.
