Part of: The Particular View |
The tour is about changes that various Muslim-influenced societies have experienced in their encounters with European societies since the mid-19th century. Whether the populations of the Ottoman and Persian Empires grappled with the encroachment of colonial powers in the 19th century, the inhabitants of Central Asia positioned themselves in the reorganizations of the Soviet Union and as independent states, or Berlin Muslims grappled with questions of Muslim life in a non-Muslim environment, questions of belonging have been renegotiated everywhere.
Melanie Krebs guides us through the Ethnological Collections with the curator’s particular view.
