In the tandem guided tour at BERLIN GLOBAL, social scientist, contemporary witness and member of the Perspektive3 association Amanda Groschke describes her view of the events of German-German contemporary history.

In dialogue with visitors, she talks about everyday scenes from her childhood and life in the late GDR as well as from her youth in the newly reunified Germany of the 1990s and about Berlin. In particular, she discusses memories of the revolutionary year of 1989 and the associated upheavals in the lives of the ‘third generation of East Germany’.

Amanda Groschke talks about the separation of her father and grandfather during the construction of the Wall in August 1961, the church as a place of freedom, her love for the puppets of the Czech puppeteer Josef Skupa “Spejbl and Hurvínek” and her father’s record collections. She also talks about the family’s escape plans in the summer of ’89.

The event is held in German.

The format

The tandem guided tour involves two people. An educator and a Berlin expert guide you through selected exhibition areas. The invited expert determines the subject matter. The experts will bring their own varied professional and personal backgrounds into the conversation and they may be a midwife, artist, small-scale female entrepreneur, biologist, historian, archaeologist, psychologist, female fire fighter or restorer. People who work as volunteers or who have provided curatorial support in the exhibition will also be invited. This makes every tandem guided tour individual and unique.
