Sulaiman Masomi
Sulaiman Masomi was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1979 and is an author, cabaret artist, comedian and rapper. He has a master’s degree in general literature, media studies and cultural anthropology.
He has been performing his art on all stages in German-speaking countries since 2003.
Over the course of his career, he has founded various reading stages, including in Paderborn, Dortmund and Cologne, and has become one of the best-known representatives of the German-speaking poetry slam scene – at the latest since winning the NRW Championships (2013).
This was followed by numerous cabaret awards, such as the Dresden Satire Prize (jury) in 2018 and the “Große Scharfrichterbeil” in Passau. In 2019, he won the Herborn Schlumpeweck (jury) and in 2020 he was awarded the Mindener Stichling for his artistic work.
He has published several books and his texts are included in numerous anthologies.
He has appeared as a guest on numerous television and radio programmes (including “Die Anstalt”, “Extra 3”, “Nuhr ab 18”, “Markus Lanz”, “Zum Lachen ins Revier”, “NDR Comedy Contest”, “Olafs Klub”, “WDR Cosmo” and many more).
Following the solo programmes “Keine Angst, ich kann Deutsch” and “Morgen-Land”, he is currently touring Germany with his programme “kunterbunt & farbenblind”.
Bodo Wartke
Audiences appreciate Bodo Wartke as a chansonnier and virtuoso pianist as well as a versatile actor and charming emcee. For him, language is always music and music gives structure to language. Bodo Wartke uses his skills for a wide variety of topics – from playful rhyming etudes to complex love songs and political, socially critical chansons. Bodo Wartke’s tongue twisters became internet hype with several million clicks in 2023.
In 2004, he received the prestigious German Cabaret Award in the “Chanson” category and in 2023 the highly endowed German Language Award from the Henning Kaufmann Foundation for his “extremely conscious, creative and playful use of the German language”. These prizes are in line with other prestigious awards he has received – including the “St. Ingberter Pfanne”, the “Stuttgarter Besen” and 1st prize in the “Bundeswettbewerb Gesang”.
From 2006 to 2011 and again from 2021 to 2023, he hosted the annual Liedermacher-Open-Air in Bad Staffelstein on the Klosterwiese Banz. He has been a regular guest at the 3satFestival since 2007 and at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival since 2014.
His theatre plays – modern adaptations of ancient dramas set to music, which he wrote with dramaturge Carmen Kalisch and director Sven Schütze – have already been performed by over 50 stages and theatre groups throughout Germany.
Piano cabaret in rhyme culture – this is how the Berliner-by-choice Bodo Wartke describes his art of entertainment. His stories set to music are a touching play with the possibilities that life offers – thought-provoking and entertaining at the same time. He poses existential questions with inimitable ease. Poetic, political, incisive.
