Culo de Papa is variously an art kiosk, a video installation and some potatoes growing in the Schlüter Courtyard. Its creator, Berlin artist Anne Duk Hee Jordan, has woven together Prussia’s colonial history with her own personal experiences, taking the potato as a starting point to reflect on identity, transience and transformation.
She uses the potato plant to reveal demographic, environmental und colonial processes which she addresses in images of assimilation and disembodiment. Stop by at the kiosk to create a personal potato memory of your own!
In the work of Anne Duk Hee Jordan transience and transformation are the central themes. Through movement and performance, Jordan adds another dimension to materiality – she builds motorized sculptures and creates edible landscapes. Her sculptures are intended to draw the viewer into the present and open a dialogue between natural phenomena, philosophy, and art. Jordan asks questions about “agency” and encourages a change in perspective. She shifts the focus away from humans to the overall ecology. An apnea diver, kinestetic specialist, master student of Olafur Eliasson, wild life researcher and artist, Jordan has contested numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally since 2010 and has been awarded many prizes and grants for her work.
