At BERLIN GLOBAL, Janita-Marja Juvonen, social activist, author and expert on homelessness, will read from her new non-fiction book “Die Anderen: die harte Realität der Obdachlosigkeit” (VOIMA Verlag, 2023). She provides an insight into the realities of people’s lives that the majority of society usually turns a blind eye to.
At the centre of the book are homeless women who – also out of self-protection – are not very visible to the public. Juvonen herself lived on the streets for 14 years. She talks about everyday life, different survival strategies and dispels prejudices.
Moderation: Selina Byfield
The reading will be followed by a discussion with the audience and other guests. The event is held in German.
The event is an accompanying event of the Open Space project “Here and Now. Women⁺ Experiencing Homelessness in Berlin”
The exhibition by querstadtein e.V. can be seen in the room Berlin Images in the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition.
