Oscar Ngu Atanga is a sound artist, curator and cultural researcher whose practice merges sonic experimentation with mixed media. This listening session gives new resonances to untold, distorted histories, and imaginable futures. Deeply rooted in his Cameroonian heritage, he channels ancestral rhythms and frequencies, and crafts immersive soundscapes with the fluidity of an improvisational instrumentalist.
Harnessing sound’s vibrational and archival power, Atanga shapes frequency and gathering into rituals for reflection and exchange. His compositions, installations, broadcasts, performances and listening sessions alter perception, guiding audiences through meditative sonic experiences shaped by Afro-diasporic polyrhythms and dub experimentalism.
Atanga first established himself in Berlin’s club scene, performing at renowned venues like Tresor and holding a residency at Kwia, a listening bar, and space for sonic experimentation, as well as internationally in venues such as Corsica Studios and Colour Factory in London. His work now extends beyond club spaces into experimental performances, sound installations, and listening sessions at cultural venues such as Lisbon’s Arroz Estudios and Berlin’s Galerie Wedding and Haus der Kulturen der Welt. His approach to ambient and experimental sonics was also presented in a collaborative performance at CTM Festival.
His long-term research engages with Pan-African concepts, artisanal materials, and cultural innovations; exploring design, development, sustainability, and restitution. The listening session features materials and contributions from Dudù Kouate, the renowned Senegalese artist and musician from a family of griots who breathes new life into ancient familial traditions through a modern multicultural lens.
