A Rap and Podcast Radio Speech Corner is being created in the Schlüter Courtyard under the direction of radio presenter and artist Giò di Sera. He is bringing artists, friends and the street culture from Kreuzberg’s StreetUniverCity e.V. Society into the Schlüter Courtyard. The material created in the Radio Speech Corner will be broadcast via a listening station within the Schlüter Courtyard and subsequently on multicult.fm.
Gió Di Sera was born in Naples and has lived in Berlin since 1986. The multimedia artist is an integral part of Berlin’s artistic landscape and a pioneer in the field of intercultural youth work. He has put on many international individual and group exhibitions and performances, including at the Akademe der Künste Berlin, Galerie Wewerka, Raab Gallery, Venice and Havana biennials, Museo della Scienza and the Macro Museum of Modern Art in Rome. He combines materials, languages and sounds like an alchemist, harmonising the ethics and aesthetics of different styles and stylistic trends. Alongside this, Giò Di Sera has worked on various projects with young people and young adults and the NaunynRitze youth centre since the beginning of the 1990s. In 2006 Giò Di Sera co-initiated the StreetUniverCity Berlin e.V. (S.U.B.) and has served as its artistic director since 2007. The S.U.B. is an independent provider of extracurricular education services. It is a Berlin institution that empowers young people to become active as artists themselves. The programme consists of very diverse local and international cultural initiatives with low barriers to entry: a mixture of high culture and subcultures. Giò Di Sera has been the recipient of many awards and honours for his dedication and long-term commitment to making the world a better place. A selection of these awards includes the Mete Eksi Prize (1993 and 1994) for his “We All Are One” youth project; the Freiherr vom Stein Prize of the Alfred Töpfer Stiftung (2009) with StreetUniverCity for “social innovation”, including a visit from the President of the Federal Republic, Horst Köhler. In 2021, Giò Di Sera was an ambassador for a campaign to promote participation opportunities for non-German EU citizens in Berlin run by the Berlin State Office for Political Education.
