Terms and Conditions

On this page you will find the terms and conditions of the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss which apply to the purchase of tickets for exhibitions as well as educational and event formats at the Humboldt Forum.

1. Area of validity

These terms and conditions govern the legal relationship between visitors and the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss (hereinafter referred to as SHF) and the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz/Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin and the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (hereinafter referred to as partners), insofar as SHF acts on their behalf. The terms and conditions apply to all available tickets for exhibitions, educational and event formats at the Humboldt Forum. For the use of catering outlets as well as for the purchase of publications and merchandise products, the separate terms and conditions of the respective providers shall apply. These terms and conditions are an integral part of the contract entered into upon the purchase of tickets by phone, at the box office in the Humboldt Forum and in SHF’s ticket webshop.

These terms and conditions shall apply to visiting organisations and their members, unless otherwise agreed.

The house rules of the SHF shall apply upon entering SHF property.

2. Conclusion of the contract

The contractual relationship for the purchase of admission tickets for exhibitions, event tickets and guided tours as well as other educational formats exists between SHF or their partners, insofar as SHF acts on their behalf, and the customer. Products shall only be sold to end customers and authorised resellers.

By confirming an order on the SHF website or by placing an order by telephone or in writing with the visitor service, the customer submits an offer to conclude a contract for the purchase or use of all products and services in the shopping basket. This offer is accepted by email confirmation from SHF and the booking is then binding. No further acknowledgement will be sent by post. Cancellation will only be possible subject to the conditions below.

SHF uses external service providers to provide its online service. Bookings take place in the shop system of the technical service provider Giant Monkey GmbH.

3. Artistic programme and start times

The current programme schedules with starting times can be found in the official publications of the SHF.

Should performance dates or seats have to be changed for artistic, technical or scheduling reasons, we will make every effort to notify you in good time. These changes or reassignment do not constitute a right of return.

SHF assumes no liability for information on posters or in other publications.

4. Admittance to events

Visitor cloakrooms and foyers will usually open 30 minutes before the start of a performance.

There is no entitlement to admittance after the start of the performance. If a visitor is refused admittance due to late arrival, they shall not be entitled to a refund of the ticket price.

All coats and other items such as backpacks, suitcases or larger bags, are to be left at the cloakroom for safekeeping during the performance.

Eating and drinking are not permitted in the event rooms.

No dogs are allowed in event rooms, with the exception of trained assistance dogs.

Audio or video recording by visitors is strictly prohibited. In the event of violations, visitors may be required to leave the event rooms.

In the event that visual and/or audio recordings are made during a performance by persons authorised to do so by SHF, visitors agree by attending the performance that they may be recorded in audio or visual form and that these recordings may be broadcast or published without entitlement to remuneration.

5. Prices and payment

The prices charged for admission tickets, event tickets, guided tours and other educational services are exempt from VAT in accordance with § 4 No. 20 a UStG. Payment shall be made in advance by the customer via one of the payment methods offered by SHF. Payment for services booked via the visitor service can also be made at the ticket desk in the foyer of the Humboldt Forum when visiting the exhibition. In exceptional circumstances, a payment on invoice can be made by arrangement. Payment by aggregated invoice can only be made by agreement.

Vouchers are valid until the end of the calendar year in which they were obtained and for a further three years, and are not redeemable thereafter. No cash payment will be made for vouchers.
Discounted or free admission tickets are only valid with evidence of entitlement, which must be produced on admission. If no evidence of entitlement to purchase discounted or free admission is produced, the difference between the price paid and the full price must be paid at the ticket office on the day of the visit. Tickets already paid for cannot be retrospectively discounted.

Admission tickets, vouchers and other printed tokens are only valid for the period or performance date noted on them.

Commercial resale is prohibited. SHF will refuse admission to holders of manipulated, copied or otherwise falsified tickets.

SHF reserves the right to stipulate special admission arrangements for special events and/or venue hire. It also reserves the right to block or restrict access to individual areas. No compensation will be provided in the event of loss, theft or non-use of the admission ticket.

6. Fulfilment

Tickets ordered online or via the service line, and confirmation of purchase and invoice, will be sent by email to the address provided by the customer. The ticket must be presented at the entrance to the Humboldt Forum, either in printed form or digitally on a smartphone or tablet. Admittance will only be granted upon presentation of the ticket with complete bar code.

In exceptional circumstances, the SHF may print out an order placed via the telephone service line and send it by post. In this case, the risk of accidental loss shall pass to the customer upon handover to the postal service. No replacement will be provided. Postage costs are to be paid by the customer.

7. Guided tours and group visits

For all guided tours, workshops and other individually arranged group events, there is a participant limit per booked date. These must be booked in advance, at least 14 days before the event. Booking confirmations sent electronically must be printed out by the customer on A4 paper.

The tour and registration procedures stated on the booking confirmation shall apply. SHF and the partners reserve the right to make minor changes to the programme and to change the guides/agents. The age of registered children must correspond to the specified age group for the course, otherwise we reserve the right to refuse the child’s participation.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, the price for public guided tours does not include the cost of admission to an exhibition.
If the group arrives late, the guided tour will be shortened accordingly. Entitlement to a guided tour will expire after 15 minutes.

For logistical reasons, registration is required for exhibition visits with group sizes of 15 persons or more that are not linked to a booked guided tour. For safety reasons, there is a group size limit, usually 25 people.

We ask for your understanding that events organised by SHF or its partners take precedence over tours for groups without a booking.

Booked school classes with a guided tour given by their teachers, and booked groups of students taking their own guided tour within the permanent exhibitions are exempt from fees.

Guided tours of the Schlüter Courtyard and the Passage as well as the outdoor areas of the Humboldt Forum are available free of charge to external commercial operators. Group tours of the Humboldt Forum building by external commercial operators are not possible.

8. Data protection

8.1. In order to process the contractual relationship for purchases via the online shop and the telephone service line, the name and address as well as the email address and telephone number of the customer will be stored and used for the duration of the contractual relationship in accordance with the provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation of 25 May 2018. SHF employees involved in the processing of the contractual relationship, and the employees of the service provider commissioned for this purpose and specifically required to handle this data with due diligence shall have access to this data exclusively for the purpose of processing the contract. Customers shall inform SHF immediately of any changes to this data.

8.2. For the purpose of visitor support and information, and with the express consent of the customer, the customer’s name, address, telephone number and email address may also be copied to a general address file held by the SHF.

9. Right of withdrawal/ Cancellation

9.1. There is no right of withdrawal with regard to the products in accordance with § 312 g para. 2 no. 9 BGB (German Civil Code), even if they are booked online or via the telephone service line.

9.2. Paid admission tickets for exhibitions, event tickets and tickets for participation in public guided tours and educational services cannot be cancelled. A refund may exceptionally be made if the ticket was booked in conjunction with a group tour that was cancelled in due time. Group tours can be cancelled either by writing to:

Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss, Besucherservice, Postfach 02 10 89, 10122 Berlin or via email to [email protected]. No fee will be charged for cancellations received (by post) 5 working days or more before the date. In this case, the invoice amount for the cancelled service will be refunded in full. In the event of cancellation after the aforementioned deadline or non-appearance of the group on the agreed date, the full invoice amount is due. Compliance with the deadline is determined by date of receipt of the cancellation by SHF; it is the customer’s responsibility to provide proof of this. Cancellation of individual parts of the service is not possible; in the event of a reduction in the number of participants, the agreed remuneration is due in full.

10. Liability and admission fee refunds

If SHF or the partners are in culpable breach of an essential contractual obligation or if the damage claimed by the client is due to wilful intent or gross negligence, including wilful intent or gross negligence on the part of representatives or third-party agents of SHF or the partners, SHF or the partners shall be liable in accordance with the statutory regulations. The limitation of liability to wilful intent and gross negligence shall not apply in the event of culpable injury to life, body or health of individual persons.

For construction or organisational reasons, individual exhibitions at the Humboldt Forum may be temporarily closed. In these circumstances, the customer will be offered an equivalent alternative or the price of the product will be refunded. Further claims for damages will not be considered in these cases. In addition, for structural or organisational reasons, individual parts of the exhibition may be closed or certain exhibits may be inaccessible. No reduction in the cost will be offered in this case.

No liability is accepted for the cancellation of an event due to force majeure or other circumstances for which SHF or the partners are not responsible.

No reduction of the cost will be offered in the event of postponement of the dates of public events or of group tours by up to 30 minutes compared to the booked service.

Special regulation for events: In the event a performance is cancelled before the (first) interval, the costs will be reimbursed upon presentation of the ticket.

Insofar as SHF or the partners are not accused of intentional breach of contract, liability for damages shall be limited to foreseeable, typically occurring damage. In all other respects, no liability is accepted. If a visitor is barred from the premises due to a violation of the house rules, they shall have no entitlement to a refund of the price of the product purchased (admission ticket or event ticket).

11. Final clauses

SHF reserves the right to change these conditions at any time without stating its reasons. Such changes shall not apply to bookings already made. Should individual regulations be or become void or ineffective, this shall not affect the validity of the remainder of the contract. The law of the Federal Republic of Germany shall apply exclusively. The sole location for delivery, service and payment is Berlin. The place of jurisdiction for disputes with merchants, legal entities under public law and special funds under public law as well as persons who have their domicile or habitual residence abroad is Berlin.
